SCX strengthens its commitment to quality, health & safety, and the environment

22nd July 2021

Sheffield-based SCX has successfully recertified for three internationally-recognised ISO standards, while also securing a RoSPA Gold award for its health and safety practices.

SCX is widely recognised for its world-class engineering capabilities as demonstrated by its retractable concertina roofs at Wimbledon, and the world-first dividing retractable pitch for Tottenham Hotspur FC. It is also a market leader in safety-critical mechanical handling solutions for demanding sectors such as aerospace, nuclear and defence.

The company recently recertified for ISO standards 9001 (Quality Management), 14001 (Environmental Management) and 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) following an in-depth external audit of its business policies, procedures and practices.

SCX also recently acquired West Yorkshire fluid power specialists Denley Hydraulics, expanding its design and engineering capabilities to support growth both in the UK and overseas.

In June, on its first attempt, it achieved the RoSPA Gold award for its commitment to health and safety in the workplace. Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants vie to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running H&S industry awards.

Tony Nudd, SHEQ Manager at SCX, said:

“As a business, SCX naturally has a strong focus on quality, health and safety, and our environmental impact. The engineering solutions that we design, manufacture, test and install for customers are often to perform difficult and dangerous movements in often extreme conditions, so safety and reliability are always a priority.”

“Maintaining our ISO certifications, alongside the fantastic achievement of a RoSPA Gold award, underlines how important raising standards is in everything we do. It runs through our business, in how our employees carry out their work, how we manage our suppliers, and how we deliver to customers.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s achievements director, adds:

“The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for health and safety worldwide.

“RoSPA is very proud of the achievements of its entrants, and with this award we recognise the best of the best, those organisations that have gone the extra mile, raising the bar for the delivery of safety in the workplace.”
