Sheffield based SCX Special Projects is a highly profitable business which started life over 30 years ago. It designs, builds, commissions and maintains bespoke engineering solutions to complex lifting and moving challenges for structures, materials and people for its customers in the nuclear energy, defence, aviation and kinetic architecture sectors.

Its highly-talented team of 60 has a global reputation having delivered numerous iconic projects in nuclear energy at Sellafield and Dounreay, retractable roofs for Wimbledon’s Centre Court and No.1 Court, the world’s first dividing and retractable pitch at Tottenham Hotspur FC, on-board systems for the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carriers, advanced production line handling and test systems for Rolls Royce engines and F-35 Lightning jets, and many others.

With the backing of its investors Elysian Capital the business is implementing a strategy which will see significant domestic and international growth.

As a part of this growth plan SCX Special Projects is currently looking for ten new members of its engineering, operations and HR teams. The teams will continue to grow over the next few years.

To produce clear and accurate designs in line with a project specification.

 

About You 

Key Skills/Experience

 

Essential

  • A degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Competent in the use of SolidWorks 3D
  • Ability to produce scoping calculations for sizing simple structures and mechanisms
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, ideally Cosmos
  • Knowledge of Mathcad

Desirable

  • Experience working within the Nuclear sector
  • In possession of, or able to obtain UK Security Clearance

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend kick off and handover meetings to ensure full understanding of the project specification, deadlines, and client requirements
  • Organise and chair design review meetings
  • Prepare project specific health and safety documentation such as Risk Assessments
  • Ensure that all documentation and correspondence relevant to the project design is filed (electronically or as a hard copy) and that a Technical File is compiled from the beginning of the project
  • The Technical File must comply with CE and CDM requirements as appropriate 
  • Produce compliant, cost effective design solutions to customer requirements
  • To proficiently check drawings and calculations prior to issue
  • Create and manage Bill of Materials 
  • Attend project review meetings as required
  • Generate detailed drawings for manufacture of all relevant components, including all requisite details such as materials, finishes and welds
  • Creation of calculations, scoping and formal, for project deliverables
  • Health and safety objectives must always be satisfied whether activities are taking place in the office, workshop or on site
  • Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Health and Safety Plans must always be complied with
  • Follow quality control objectives as laid out in the SCX Quality Manual 
  • All relevant Procedures must be followed to ensure Customer Satisfaction and achievement of SCX objectives
  • Liaise with Sales, EC&I, Production, Engineering, Quality and Purchasing to deliver high quality integrated deliverables.
