And in the nuclear sector, mechanical handling and lifting often forms part of ONR safety cases and site licence conditions, which demand that equipment is regularly maintained and thoroughly assessed.

SCX Special Projects has a team of in-house engineers covering the multiple disciplines of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, controls (EC&I) and safety. And SCX's on-site installation engineers have an enviable track record of commissioning bespoke handling and lifting solutions of all shapes and sizes.

Staying safe and legal

Industrial machinery carries with it a number of obligations for its owners – known as the duty holders.

The more risk associated with the equipment and its use, the greater the duty holder's obligations.

Mechanical handling and lifting equipment is generally covered by PUWER and LOLER regulations. If pressurised systems such as hydraulics and pneumatics are involved, then PSSR applies too.

And if it's operating on a nuclear site, ONR licence conditions and a related safety case will also be in force.

SCX is a member of LEEA and also a RoSPA Gold Award winner. Our service engineers are familiar with all relevant regulations, and will ensure that your equipment – and your business – remain safe, reliable and compliant.

EDF Energy

SCX performs testing and validation of various fuel route functional safety systems prior to power generation campaigns at Sizewell B

AELTC: Wimbledon Centre Court & No.1 Court

SCX services and maintains both Centre Court and No.1 Court roofs, and provides dedicated support for operating the roofs during the Championships

Sellafield

SCX provides a schedule of service and maintenance for four cranes at a Sellafield ILW processing facility, on a four-monthly cycle

Canary Wharf

SCX is currently refurbishing the 25-year old bascule bridges at Canary Wharf, and will provide ongoing servicing and maintenance

Tottenham Hotspur

SCX services and maintains the retractable pitch, surround and grow lights, plus specific support for events such as NFL, boxing and rugby

UK defence programme cranes

SCX provides service and maintenance for 20 cranes that we have engineered and commissioned for the UK's defence programme

UK nuclear licenced sites

SCX provides regular maintenance and testing of safety systems on five decommissioning cranes that we supplied to Magnox

BAE / Babcock

SCX supports the Royal Navy fleet of Aircraft Carriers and Destroyers with crane servicing and maintenance, including the latest Queen Elizabeth-class carriers
