Job Summary

This role will further enhance SCX Special Projects engineering and project delivery capabilities by providing strategic commercial and contractual support to the Project Management, Operations and Sales functions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Project Managers to develop and maintain commercial and contractual awareness of all projects,
  • Liaising with Project Managers to formulate, progress and manage Early Warning Notices and Compensation events until closure,
  • Assist the Sales Department in the assessment of proposed terms and conditions, contract setup, tender compliance, pricing schedules and contract negotiation,
  • Provide contractual, and commercial advice to all departments,
  • Provide strategic reporting of project status and commercial risk on a monthly basis and implement strategy to mitigate such risk on assigned projects,
  • Ensure that all project commercial/contractual requirements are understood and satisfied, via inclusion in the project programmes,
  • Working with Project Managers, manage programme and/or commercial issues and risks to ensure Liquidated Damages are not levied,
  • Optimise revenue and profitability from contracts, including quoting for all extras to original contract where identified,
  • Sign off orders in accordance with SCX Special Projects policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, and reporting issues as they arise,
  • Provide project governance to ensure project teams are working in accordance client terms and Conditions and with SCX policies and procedures,
  • Prepare for, and contribute to, Project Status Reviews.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Commercial awareness and attention to detail,
  • Demonstrable ability to develop effective commercial plans and ensure they are achieved in a timely and profitable way,
  • Working knowledge of NEC Contracts preferred,
  • Able to effectively communicate with senior managers and negotiate with external clients/suppliers,
  • Knowledge and experience of quality, health and safety,
  • Previous experience of commercial responsibility for technical or large value contracts,
  • Experience of working in a senior commercial and/or project management role in a fast moving, multi-project environment,
  • Experience of managing engineering projects; mechanical handling/nuclear projects an advantage,
  • Experience of managing clients and suppliers,
  • Experience of working in a mechanical engineering environment,
  • Educated to degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline with relevant commercial qualifications.
